Brief info

Captain Jeremy Komasz is a native of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. He graduated from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs in May 1996. He commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at George Washington and reported to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training in Coronado, California. Captain Komasz graduated with BUD/S Class 214 in December 1997.

His active duty assignments include SEAL Platoon Assistant Officer in Charge, SEAL Team FIVE, Coronado, CA; Assistant Operations Officer, Naval Special Warfare Unit FOUR, Ceiba, PR; SEAL Platoon Officer in Charge and Operations Officer, SEAL Team TWO, Virginia Beach, VA.

Komasz transitioned to the Reserve Component in 2005. He has served in multiple positions as a drilling reservist at SEAL Team Eighteen, including: Communications Detachment OIC, AT/FP Detachment OIC, SEAL Unit Operations Officer and Executive Officer. In 2007, he executed a voluntary, definite recall to active duty to fill a critical shortfall on the ST-18 staff. Over a two-year period, Komasz served as Troop Commander, Operations Officer and Executive Officer.

In 2010, Komasz returned to a drilling reserve status and was assigned to Navy Reserve Special Operations Command Europe Detachment 208 as the Operations Officer. In 2011 he was selected for promotion to Commander and selected through the Apply Board as the Commanding Officer, Navy Reserve Special Boat Unit 18 – the largest NRU under SEAL Team EIGHTEEN and Naval Special Warfare Group ELEVEN. In 2013 he was selected for his second CO tour, as Commanding Officer, NR NSW CSS-18C. He mobilized and deployed during this tour, as Deputy Commander, Special Operations Task Force Southeast and filled a Joint Billet for his final four months as the Basing Lead and Garrison Commander for NATO Special Operations Component Command – Afghanistan (NSOCC-A) for the transition and construction of FOB Dahlke. After returning from mobilization in 2014, he helped transition NR NSW CSS-18 into NR NSW UAS-18, and was selected through the Apply Board as Operations Officer, NR NSW Task Force 18.

In 2017, he was selected for promotion to Captain and selected through the Apply Board for his first O6 command as Commanding Officer, NR NSW Task Force 18. Captain Komasz attended the in-residence course for the Naval Command College Master’s Degree program at the Naval War College, Newport, RI., earning JPME II and a Master of Arts, National Security and Strategic Studies.

Captain Komasz is currently mobilized to fulltime active duty as the Commander of Navy Reserve Special Operations Command Detachment ONE. He and his 40-man team are forward-deployed support the NSOCC-A mission to train, advise, and assist the Afghanistan Special Forces.

In his civilian career, Komasz is a Business Development Director for L3Harris Technologies. In this capacity, he is responsible for business development activities in support of numerous US Government Departments and Agencies, and numerous international customers for EO/IR and periscope imaging systems.

His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards) and Navy Achievement Medal (three awards). He holds a subspecialty as a Foreign Area Officer – Latin America.

Captain Komasz lives with his wife, Krista R. Dobbie, M.D. in Cleveland Heights, OH.
